Suggested Packing List + Preparations

VOLUNTEER RESOURCES

SUGGESTED PACKING LIST + PREPARATIONS

Passport: Get an updated passport. This can take 6-12 weeks. A visa is not necessary. Make a copy of your passport and hide this in your luggage.

Vaccines and Medications: Make an appointment with a travel doctor at least 6 weeks prior to your departure. You will need updated HepA/B, Typhoid, and Anti-Malarials

Travel Insurance: Plans are available at MedjetAssist http://medjetassist.com/

Donations: Volunteers are not required to bring donated supplies on their trip, but any donations are certainly welcome.

Culturally-Appropriate Clothing: Sleeveless shirts are acceptable. Most Haitian women wear blouses and skirts or dresses. Avoid short-cropped shorts.

Backpack/Shoulder Bag: Do not carry an obvious “purse.” Have a personal bag or backpack that you will carry with you at all times in Haiti.

Cash: Bring some personal spending money for taxi rides, tips, and emergencies

Laptops & Smart Phones: These are welcome as we do have electricity and internet in the house

Other Items to bring: Personal Toiletries, Bathing Suit, Water Bottle, Sunscreen, Insect Repellant, Hand Sanitizer, Sunglasses, Tissue Pack, Flip-flops,Comfortable Walking ShoesBooks for Reading, Journal, Snacks

 

 

Packing List for Medical Volunteers: Medical volunteers will need to bring their own medical supplies that they require to practice.

Stethoscope

Blood Pressure Cuff

Tape

Gloves (sterile and non-sterile)

Doppler (if you have one)

Thermometer

Alcohol Wipes

Tissues, Gauze 

Scrubs (3-4 pairs)

Fanny pack (to carry necessary supplies at the hospital or mobile clinic)
