Midwives For Haiti August Newsletter 2022

Dear Ones,

We hope you are enjoying your summer! We at MFH are already working on our autumn and winter programming and we would love for you to be a part of it! As you know, our volunteer program has taken a few hits over the last few years due to political unrest, Covid 19, and everything else that we as a global community have experienced. However, things are calm in the Central Plateau, and we feel that we can now welcome our volunteers back safely.

If you have worked with us in the past, you may notice some differences. All volunteers must now fly into Cap Hatien, rather than Port Au Prince. This is not negotiable and for your own safety. While we feel secure in Hinche, the violence in Port Au Prince is ongoing and I will not risk anyone’s safety.

Additionally, all volunteers must be fully vaccinated, including any boosters for which you are eligible. Proof of vaccination will be required.

We also require insurance, as things can change rapidly on the ground.

While medical volunteers are most needed, we also have a limited number of spaces for non-medical folks, so if you work in a healthcare adjacent field such as doula-ing, lactation consulting, public health, etc, please feel free to get in touch.

2022 Volunteer Drive

Over the next two weeks we will be running our 2022 Volunteer Drive. Check out our social media for stories from former volunteers, information on working in our various programs, and other exciting information.

As a welcome back present, we are offering a 20% discount on all trips booked during the drive. You do not have to take the trip during this time; just fill out an application on our website, have an orientation chat with me, and pay your $150 deposit, and you will be eligible for this discount.

You can find more info and an application on the website at www.midwivesforhaiti.org/volunteer-program. Check out the FAQ for fees, details about our various opportunities, and more.

We have truly missed our volunteer family! You bring us new ideas, fresh energy, and keep us on our toes! We hope to see you in Hinche soon!

Love,

Jane Drichta
