September 5th, 2018 marks the third anniversary of the loss of a very special part of Midwives For Haiti, Carrie Wortham. Carrie began working as the In-Country Coordinator in Haiti, then as the US Administrative Director as well as a Board Member at Impact Makers (who later began collaboration with MFH). For two years Carrie devoted herself to our mission and was a beloved member.
Those who knew and worked alongside Carrie found her integrity, drive, and passion for her work inspiring and many volunteers and staff have very fond memories of working with her. Our beautiful birth center in Cabestor, Haiti is named after Carrie and dedicated to her memory. Many of her family members have maintained relationships with Midwives For Haiti on both personal and supporter/donor levels in her honor. What her father said at her memorial service three years ago, still rings true today: “Service, Determination and Persistence, Humility and A Heart to seek after God. Her legacy, as big as it is, will carry on.”
