Happy New Year, and greetings from Haiti! I hope you all had a lovely festive season! I would like to thank each and every one of you who supported our end of year fundraising campaign. Our goal was $120,000 and I am delighted to report that we more than met that, with $140,000 raised! Thank you for your trust and support.
And if you didn’t quite get around to donating, I have very exciting news! The doTerra Healing Hands Foundation has generously given us a matching grant opportunity with the specific goal of funding the septic tank at the new Carrie Wortham Birth Center. The Foundation will match up to $7423, and we have until 31 January to collect these funds.
So, if you meant to donate during our campaign, but time got away from you…here’s your chance!
Haiti has the worst maternal and infant statistics in the western hemisphere, This year in particular has been very difficult. Kidnappings and gang violence are rampant, inflation is approaching 30%, over 70% of the country is experiencing food insecurity. It is a hard place to be a pregnant woman.
We got a bit behind in finishing the birth center due to supply issues and the inability to travel the roads safely. It is almost complete, but we need a septic system. This essential system will allow our pregnant and postpartum mothers to use flush toilets and indoor showers, a luxury where pit toilets and bucket baths are the norm.
Won’t you help us provide a dignified and hygienic system for our pregnant mothers? I’m sure you agree that our women deserve it!
