Week 4: Heartfelt Thanks - Midwives For Haiti

Week 4: Heartfelt Thanks

Dear Ones,

Thank you all so much for being a part of our spring fundraising campaign, “Stronger Together: Our Passion in Action!” We hope you have enjoyed getting to know our staff and students in Haiti through their videos and blog posts, that you have learnt some fun new facts about Haiti, and that you can feel the love and connection we have all created together. We are looking to finish strong on Sunday, 31 May, which is Haitian Mother’s Day!

When we first began this campaign, things were looking rather desperate. And while the state of the world has not improved much, the kindness you have shown to MFH has been absolutely unprecedented. For during this, one of the darkest times in our world’s history, you have shown clearly that people can see beyond themselves, that they can reach out and support a mother, a family, a community in dire need.

Midwives and doulas sometimes say that they are rock kickers. They can’t take the childbirth journey for their mothers, but they can walk ahead of them and clear the stones out of the way, making the experience easier. In this case, you, my friends, are the rock kickers. Haiti’s rocks are many and large. The legacy of colonialism, natural disasters, systemic poverty…all these things and more stand in the way of mothers birthing safely and beautifully. However, you have cleared the way, so that our incredible staff can do what they do best: walk with a woman, be with a woman, as she comes into her power as a mother.

So, from the bottom of our hearts we are humbled and delighted to share the total of our fundraising campaign so far: $64,576.68! And there is still time to help! Our donation info is below.

Additionally, you are all invited to a Facebook Live event, Saturday, 30 May at 6 pm Eastern Standard Time. This round table discussion concludes our Voices from the Diaspora series, where Haitians and Haitian Americans will be discussing the role of MFH as we move forward. Please join us on our page, and bring your questions and comments.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Love always,
