Dear Ones,
Thank you so much to those of you who have supported the first week of our campaign. To date we have raised $12,200 and our goal is $80,000. We hope you are enjoying the stories from the field, showing how MFH midwives are “Making a Difference!” And if you were inspired by Rory’s video on employee matching gifts and would like more information, please reach out to me. We will get you all set up! Remember, our challenge is to procure 5 matching gifts during this fundraising period!
This week, we explore the darker side of Haiti, with a look at the ever encroaching violence and the human suffering that goes along with it. In unstable situations, women and children reliably suffer the most, and everyone’s job becomes harder. The political crisis affects everything in Haiti, from travel (roads are unsafe…murders and carjackings are everywhere!) to prices (inflation has risen to almost 50%, and food prices especially are in freefall) to morale. Haitians are suffering so much, and it is heartbreaking to live and work in these conditions.
We will also take a look at our average donor. Spoiler alert: It’s YOU! Our donor family is made up of foundations and other grantors, yes, but it is you, the average person, with a heart for pregnant women and babies who makes the biggest difference! Every penny is put to good use, running our programs, paying our incomparable staff, and saving lives.
We cannot do this work without you, and quite frankly, we don’t want to. We live, work, cry, laugh, grieve and rejoice in community. We are all dependent on each other, and we love it this way!
