We at Midwives for Haiti hope you had a joyous Christmas if you celebrate, and we wish you the happiest of New Years. As our campaign draws to a close, we have a matching opportunity to double your gift! Through 1 Jan, all gifts will be matched by a consortium of private donors up to $6500!
We have some VERY exciting expansion plans for 2024 to share with you all, which your kind support will help finance. The first is our maternity waiting home, newly named “Kay Manman Yo,” or “The Mothers’ Home,” in Kreyol. This innovative program is the first of its kind in Haiti! It will allow mothers with high risk pregnancies to be cared for under midwifery supervision in our secure facility in Hinche, until they go into labor, at which time they will be transported to Hospital Ste Therese. This program, funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, will save many lives!
We also have wonderful news for the community at Bocbonique and the surrounding areas! Thanks to the generosity of the Clara Lionel Foundation and Mothers at Risk, we will be opening a brand new birth center on the border with the Dominican Republic! We have long maintained a clinic here for two weeks out of every month, and now we can create a beautiful, safe facility for this area. This is also a partnership with Haiti Air Ambulance, and we will be teaming up with them to provide peer to peer CPR and safe pregnancy training to these small isolated communities.
Midwives for Haiti has long dreamt of one birth center of our own, and now we can provide two! Such a victory for the people of Haiti!
