After an intensive year long course based on World Health Organization standards, 29 Haitian nurses earned a Certificate in Essential Obstetric Skills on September 18, 2016. These skilled birth attendants were celebrated in Hinche, Haiti, and were joined by our teachers and staff, many alumni of Midwives For Haiti, proud family, and many friends, volunteers, and supporters.
Also joining the ceremony was Every Mother Counts and their founder, Christy Turlington Burns, who generously sponsored the training of this class, along with friends from Stella & Dot. In addition to graduation, we also celebrated our 10th anniversary and honored the many individuals who have given so much to the success of Midwives For Haiti over the years. It was a memorable day for all.
Our graduates now total 124 and each one will touch thousands of lives throughout their career, transforming maternal and infant health in Haiti. The training of the next 30 students begins in January 2017.
