September Updates: Earthquake Relief, Graduation, and a New School Year

Dear Ones,

We cannot thank you enough for the outpouring of support we have received after the tragic earthquake last month. We truly have the best family of supporters, and we would especially like to thank Bon Secours/Mercy Health for their assistance.

Our midwives have been hard at work putting your love into action working with Maison de Naissance, a birth center in Torbeck. Babies keep coming, families keep growing, and midwives keep doing what they do best, supporting women, no matter what the circumstances. We are especially grateful to our four preceptors who volunteered so readily, and in doing so missed the graduation of Class 11, students they had mentored for two years. They are the embodiment of Midwives for Haiti’s values.

And Class 11! Their graduation on 29 August was such a sweet celebration. Despite a 6 month break due to Covid-19, civil unrest, an assassination, an earthquake, and a tropical storm, these women just kept going. They had a goal, and nothing was going to stop them from reaching it. I am delighted to see them take their place in the international community of midwives, and we are so so proud of them. The inspire me, and I’m sure they inspire you as well.

And now they pass the torch to our new cohort, Class 12!

While Class 11 was the first cohort to go through our improved 18 month curriculum, Class 12 will be the first class comprised fully of licensed nurses. As MFH grows, our standards become more and more rigorous, and we are so excited to get to know our new class. They have big shoes to fill, but we have no doubt they are up to the challenge.

Amazon Wish List 2021

We hope you’ve seen our school supply drive posts on social media or on our website. We invite you to be a part of Class 12’s success at the Nadene Brunk Eads School by contributing monetarily, or by purchasing supplies from our Amazon wish list. I’m particularly partial to the pink blood pressure cuffs! We have items at all price points, and all equally important.

The list can be found here.

We are so excited to begin a new school year, and to begin training the next generation of midwives! Thank you for supporting these students as they begin this intense and wonderful chapter in their lives.

Love always,

Jane Drichta
