Week 3: Still Stronger Together - Midwives For Haiti

Week 3: Still Stronger Together

Dear Ones,

I just wanted to give you a quick update on our Spring Fundraising Campaign. At this point, you have shared $32,855 with us, and we could not be more grateful! You are truly special people, and we are honored by your trust. With only a few days to our end date of 31 May, I know we will finish strong!

We hope you have enjoyed getting to know some of our Midwives for Haiti family, both on the ground, and from members of the Haitian diaspora. Their voices and passion are at the heart of everything we do!

We continue to face challenges in Haiti due to Covid-19. Inflation continues to increase, and the vast majority of people in Haiti, over 2.5 million, subsist on approximately $1.25 a day, according to USAID.At the present time, the entire country is either in Phase 2 (Stressed) or Phase 3 (Crisis), using the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification.

This is expected to worsen, with the chief of the World Food Program, David Beasley, saying, “We could be facing a crisis of Biblical proportions within a few short months.” Haiti has been highlighted as one of the ten worst countries in the world for food insecurity. We are deeply concerned for our patients and staff, if the economy continues to slow.

At the same time, MFH is completely committed to paying our staff salaries, even with increased pressures due to Covid 19. With your help, I know we can continue to provide job security and expert patient care for the community of Hinche and the Central Plateau!

Love always,
Jane Drichta
